Trader Joe's Mango & Cream Bars

Trader Joe's Mango & Cream Bars

Published February 14, 2021

I don’t always shop at Trader Joe’s, but to kick off the new year, I decided to do a haul of unique products that I’ve never seen before.

As I shopped through the open cases of frozen ingredients — where I found the Trader Joe’s Vanilla Mochi Ice Cream — I stumbled upon their Mango & Cream Bars, which I decided to share for this week’s ingredient review.

Ingredient Review

Trader Joe’s Mango & Cream Bars Packaging | Score 9 of 10

I love Trader Joe’s clean and coordinated packaging design.

For their Mango & Cream Bars, they focus on highlighting the mango flavor by catching your attention with a bright orange box. They call out the “Gluten Free” tag in the top right corner (which is as dark and bold as their logo name), prompting consumers who are restricted by gluten intolerance to notice that they can eat these treats.

The image of the Mango & Cream Bars is spot on to the actual product. I didn’t notice that in the left-hand corner, you can see how many bars are in the box and the weight of each.

The bars themselves are individually packaged in a white plastic material, so you’re able to open the box and store the leftover bars within the same box.

I gave the packaging for these bars a 9 out of 10, because the plastic tops are linked together. So when you try to tear one bar off the chain, if you’re not careful, you can tear open the plastic on the next bar as well (thus, requiring you to eat both bars).

How much does Trader Joe’s Mango & Cream Bars Cost? | Score 9 of 10

The box of Mango & Cream Bars cost $3.49. I feel that per unit this is a reasonable price for a mango dessert, and the fact that the box has 8 bars compared to the six treats in the Vanilla Mochi Ice Cream box.

As I mentioned before, I did not read that each bar was 40g, so I was surprised to pull out a bar that was miniature in size. My iPhone was much larger than this Mango & Cream Bar.

If you’re someone who is conscious of their portion size and avoids over-indulging on desserts, these bars would be perfect for you.

I imagine that for children, these are also perfect portions for dessert. For me, I was expecting a standard ice cream / ice pop sized dessert.

Mango & Cream Bars Texture and Flavor | Score 10 of 10

If you love mango, these bars are for you. The bars do not take overly sweet or artificial, as some fruit flavored desserts do.

What’s nice about these bars is that the “cream” flavor breaks up the flavor of the mango and reminds me a bit of vanilla ice cream. As you can see in the above picture, only one edge of the bar has the cream, and a tiny bit throughout the center.

Recommendation

I would buy Trader Joe’s Mango & Cream Bars again. I enjoy the refreshing mango flavor with the hints of cream. The bars are tiny in size, but good for portion control.
