Lolli and Pops

Lolli and Pops

Published March 26, 2021

After visiting Mattarello Bakery and Café, we drove to the Bridgewater Mall to visit a store my sister my sister found called, “Lolli and Pops.”

I could tell by the branding and light colors that I was going to like this store. The pastel blue and giant windows gave me a glimpse into the candy and chocolate-filled shelves. On this rainy Saturday afternoon the store was nearly empty so I was excited to browse the shelves.

Mint colored shelves and white vintage tables greeted us as we entered the store. A short, aproned millennial behind the counter welcomed us. One set of parents and their child wandered around the back of the store, so we were free to browse the displays and shelves of treats.

A glass case fill with rainbow macaroons and chocolate truffles sat to the left of the entrance, extending to the checkout line. A trio of pastel boxes with a menu allows you to select the truffles you wanted for a build-your-own box. Gold script flourished across the back wall, adding a whimsical feeling to the Lolli and Pop space and brand.

We moved to the right-hand side of the store, browsing the long table displays and shelves. The first table featured liquor-related candies and chocolates.

The unique cotton candy flavors caught my eye: Stout, Prosecco, and Piña Colada. A floor to ceiling display grouped the rainbow colors from floor to ceiling. Y’all know my love for Prosecco bloomed from my vacation in Florence. I debated buying that flavor, but in the end, I went with the piña colada.

A wall of thick candy-coated Rice Krispy treats beckoned with tops dipped in marshmallows, candies, sprinkles, and cookie pieces. My sister picked an Oreo flavor to try.

A classic candy table sat in front of the cotton candy display. The symmetrical columns of candy dots caught my eye. Feeling nostalgic, we browsed the display for Pop Rocks, candy cigarettes, and gold nugget gum.

Around the corner, columns grouped by country offered specialty candy and snacks. I even saw mochi and stroopwafels. Bags of sriracha popcorn and crispy fish skin snacks hung in colorful bags. I didn’t want to be too adventurous for my first visit, so I didn’t buy any of the savory snacks. I did make a note to come back and try them.

Fill-Your-Own Jars

The highlight of Lolli and Pops was the plastic bins of individual candies, gummies, and chocolates that wrapped around the back room. You could select a glass jar, get gloves (so the candy scoop stays germ free), and fill your jar with any of the candies and chocolates.

There were mason jars, gummy-bear shaped jars, and short circular jars to select from.

I selected the smallest jar — the circular one — as I don’t eat candy or chocolate that often. I only wanted a sample of some of my favorite candies, which I haven’t in a while.

Jelly Beans

There were one and a half rows of plastic bins filled with individual and mixed Jelly Beans. I filled the bottom of my jar with coconut, popcorn, birthday cake, and french vanilla-flavored Jelly Beans, though Lolli and Pops had all of the classic flavors.

Gummy Bears

Bins of liquor-inspired, sugar-coated gummy bears framed a giant gummy bear statue. I plopped two of the gummy bear flavors into my jar to try. I don’t normally like gummy-style candies, so I skipped the remaining gummy worms and root beer bottle treats that transitioned into the chocolate bins.

Chocolates

Lolli and Pop had anything chocolate you could imagine: Chocolate-covered Oreos, graham crackers, raisins, espresso beans, chocolate “rocks”, pecans, and more.

There were also sections for dark chocolate and milk chocolate. I selected a few items from the dark chocolate section — including the dark chocolate espresso beans.

Malt balls, toffee, and other treats sat within the chocolate section, so I added a triangle of toffee to my jar as well.

My Recommendations

I would give Lolli and Pops a 10/10. The store was well organized with unique products and treats. The branding was beautiful and whimsical, which I find perfect for a candy store. The girl who worked at the store was friendly and helpful, and didn’t seem to mind our excessive browsing or questions.

Pina Colada Cotton Candy | $6.95

The piña colada flavor for this cotton candy was aaamazing. If you’re going to buy this flavor you have to enjoy pineapple and coconut, as it is bright, fruity, and sweet.

I thought this container was a fair size for the price. I would buy the Prosecco flavor next just to see what it tastes like. The piña colada was a 10/10.

Build Your Own Jar | $12.50

You can’t go wrong with Jelly Beans and chocolate covered espresso beans. I think for $12.50 this jar was a bit expensive, though I guess if I filled it entirely with chocolate, that would be a fair deal. You’re paying for the experience of customizing your own candy jar. I also like that the jar is reusable, so I can repurpose it.

I would return to Lolli and Pops to purchase some of their classic candy and sodas. I also didn’t buy anything from their truffle and macaroon case, so I would like to build my own box of truffles in the future.
